What causes different coloration in the water ponds?
I was flying just a week ago between Salt Lake City and San Francisco. near Salt Lake City area and also on the way in Nevada one could see colorful ponds which were somehow splitted by black channels (rivers, roads?).
Here is the picture:

What is it? Is it the water treatment company, which somehow separates differently treated ponds? Is the color due to chemical treatment or algi? What are these black channels separating it?
